Sauti Sol, which means “voices of light” in Swahili and Spanish, was formed in Nairobi, Kenya in 2005 by vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, Savara Mudigi, and guitarist Polycarp Otieno. The band has released five albums and over 40 songs, including hits such as “Sura Yako”, “Kuliko Jana”, “Melanin”, and “Suzanna”. The band has won numerous awards and accolades, such as the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa, and the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Group.
The band is known for their electrifying live performances, captivating vocals, and uplifting messages. They have collaborated with artists such as Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Patoranking, Yemi Alade, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. They have also performed at prestigious events such as the Global Citizen Festival, the Africa Day Concert, and the Obama Foundation Summit.
African Heritage Music and Dance Society is a Canadian not for profit Arts Presentation organization based in Vancouver BC. Incorporated in 2015 we have been producing and presenting our festival and concerts since 2015 bringing international Artists like Alpha Blondy, Black Umfolosi, Burna Boy, Davido, Falz, WizKid, Yemi Alade, Wizboy, Ahmed Fofana and many more, to share with our audiences in Vancouver and other cities in Canada.
Our 2023 AHFOMAD festival taking place at Massey Theatre and Creative Spaces this September 1-3rd welcoming a diverse group of local, national and international talents, artists, vendors including workshops and music masterclasses to immerse into the Canadian music business and Black Africa Caribbean music and cultures.
